Basic Carp Fishing Tips

As frustrating as it is, carp fishing is an awesome experience. Carp are masters at sucking in and blowing out suspicious baits. But if that hook sticks in the mouth, hold on for dear life. The excitement and adrenaline rush that comes with the sound of the reel singing while battling this tough competitor is outstanding.

Carp will happily feed on the surface as long as their are plenty of pellets, biscuits, chic peas, bread, and rehydrated corn coming their way. These are also inexpensive baits. Attach them to the hooks, bread seems to work very well. For biscuits, soften them in the water for approximately two minutes. Then seal them in a sandwich bag for about an hour. Since different brands have different textures experimenting to see which ones cast better is advisable. Another way to attach baits is to super glue pellets to the hook.

Start tossing lots of bait into the area that is going to be targeted for fishing. Once the carp start feeding let them get real comfortable. This gives the fisher more of a upper hand since the carp begin to not feel as picky. Using this tactic can work quite well with zig rigs. As soon as they are feeding cast your bait beyond where the carp are feeding. Then slowly retrieve the bait into the feeding area. Leave the bait positioned there while continuing to keep the feeding area full of bait. This will help to ensure that the carp will hang around for a longer period of time.

Now lets talk about setting up; Use a hair rig, this will increase the chances of hooking the carp. They taste the food first so if they don`t like it they are not going to come around it. Using 50 lb. test spider wire with a leader material that fits the fishing situation should work just fine. Thread the bait on the baiting needle and hook the hair loop. A baiting needle can be made by straightening a long shank hook. Using foam dipped in a flavor also enhances the attractiveness to the bait. Slide the bait onto the shank then slide it from the needle onto the hair. Use of a float gives more distance to the cast as well as being able to identify where the bait bait is. Don`t  forget the controller float rig.

Good carp fishers say it is not the bait, but the method that catches the fish. Pre-bait one spot everyday for a few days. This will make the carp think that there is a steady source of food. Pretty soon there will be a school of fish around feeding. Be patient, it will work.
